Less Is Sometimes More at Vilafonté
The name Vilafonté derives from the word ‘vilafontes’ which is the name of the soil at the winery. This soil is one of the oldest known types of soil worldwide and is estimated to be 750.000 up to 1.5 million years old. The ground has already developed a lot and only few nutrients can be found in it. Which, at first glance, may sound odd actually turns out to be an important factor for a high quality on the vines. Due to the low nutrient content, the soil generates low yields yet highly concentrated and high quality grapes. The result are gentle, round and luscious wines that display a powerful style as well as a harmonious structure. Gourmets will never be given mass-produced bottles but true unicums at this winery!
Two Sides to It
Vilafonté produces two collections that are the complete opposite in terms of character but are in no way inferior to each other regarding quality and taste: Series C and Series M. The letter stands for the used grape varieties – C represents Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and M signifies Malbec and Merlot. The style of the Series C is defined by a powerful, mighty and concentrated flavour. The red wine convinces with its richness of fruit. The Series M on the other hand entices with its sensuality, elegance and harmony with a strong finish.
The third wine in the portfolio is the very new Seriously Old Dirt which impresses with its complex bouquet of fruity, floral and poignant nuances as well as with its soft, grand mouth feel.
