The Wine in Detail
The Simonsig Pinotage flows with an elegant, rhubarb colour into the gourmet’s glass. The nose notices the scent of red berry fruits, especially sweet cherries and strawberry. On the palate, the red wine is also fruity with nuances of plums and cherries, coated with a touch of cinnamon spice The good structure and pleasant tannins of the Simonsig Pinotage resulting in a fruity finish which lingers on the tongue for a long time.

The Simonsig Pinotage gies well with dishes with grilled meat. With wild duck, venison or roast beef, this bottle is also an excellent choice.

Grape Variety
The grape variety of the Simonsig Pinotage is considered to be South Africa’s national grape. It was created here at the beginning of the 20th century from a cross between the two varieties Cinsault and Pinot Noir. The best characteristics of both vines have been united in Pinotage. Sweet, storable reds with aromas of spices and dark berries are typical products from Pinotage.

The Winery
The winery Simonsig is especially famous for its Pinotage; in 1970, the very first estate wine was also a Pinotage. Over the years, the winery was able to perfect the production of its noble bottles and nowadays stands for Pinotage of the highest class. With the Simonsig Pinotage, the winemakers created a typical representative of this grape variety which excites with its fruitiness and high quality.

Storage
The Simonsig Pinotage is already a pleasure when opened today. Due to its great ageing potential, it can spend some years in the cellar and develop its full character during that time.
