The Wine in Detail
The Meerlust Rubicon was one of the first blends that a winemaker had ever produced in South Africa. The vintage presents itself to gourmets with an intense, impressive violet colour in the glass. Immediately, the delicious scent of violet flowers and ripe plums becomes apparent, closely followed by the scent of cedar as well as a wonderful spice. In the taste, the full-bodied, well structured cuvee is fruit dominated. The tongue notices the refreshing nuances of black berries and a wonderful tannin structure. Due to its great potential and taste, the Meerlust Rubicon fully lives up to its reputation as the icon of South Africa.

Goes with …
Gourmets will most enjoy the Meerlust Rubicon in interplay with game or stews. The elegant cuvee also goes very well with delicious cheese platters. Please also try this red wine on its own – you will not regret it.

Grape Variety
The Meerlust Rubicon is constituted by the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, MerlotCabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The first has the largest part in this cuvee and makes for the wonderfully powerful body as well as the taste of dark berries. Merlot on the other hand is known for its soft plum nuances and creates the beautiful tannins of the red wine. The small part of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot perfectly complements the two varieties and harmoniously rounds off the red wine.

The Winery
The winery Meerlust is situated close to the famous Stellenbosch region and benefits from its long tradition in wine production when creating premium products such as the Meerlust Rubicon. The Mediterranean climate also contributes to the high quality of their products.

Storage
After the harvest, the Meerlust Rubicon spent 20 months in new and older oak barrels from France. Through the development in oak barrels, the cuvee received a high development potential and can therefore spend many years in the cellar during which it can intensify its great fruit aromas. Depending on preference, this wine from South Africa is also delicious right away.
