The Wine in Detail
The Meerlust Red flows with an intensive dark red colour into the glass. Immediately, the scent of exotic spices and aromas of black currants with a light floral note become apparent. In the mouth, the red blend reveals a complex character with vanilla, dark chocolate and black fruits. Silky soft tannins and a fresh acidity perfectly round off the Meerlust Red and show that South African Merlot blends are something very wonderful.

Goes with …
The Meerlust Red perfectly goes with dark meat dishes yet also pasta and poultry are good partners for the complex flavour profile.

Grape Variety
The winemakers used mainly Merlot for the Meerlust Red – a grape variety which used to have a difficult time in South Africa. Nevertheless, the winemakers at Meerlust managed to combine the typical soft character of Merlot with the wonderful fruitiness of the New World. Cabernet Sauvignon joins. a powerful and noble variety, as well as Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in further parts. Together, they create a multilayered flavour profile.

The Winery

This was 30 years ago – nowadays, the winery is one of the best in South Africa and impresses the wine world with its creations such as the Meerlust Red year after year.

Storage
