The Wine in Detail
The Meerlust Merlot flows with a wonderful purple colour into the glass; at the rim, ruby shades become apparent. The nose notices the scent of dark fruits such as bramble, mulberry and plum, surrounded by dark chocolate, liquorice and spices. In the mouth, this wine from South Africa literally explodes and entices with luscious fruits, refreshing acidity and minerality as well as silky tannins. A full yet always smooth body perfectly rounds off the Meerlust Merlot.

Goes with …
The Meerlust Merlot goes very well with pasta or dark meat. It is also ideal for selected cheese varieties or as a red wine for a romantic dinner for two.

Grape Variety
Besides the eponymous grape variety Merlot, there are also small parts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in the Meerlust Merlot. Merlot is famous for its smooth body and soft tannins. Aromas of red fruits are also typical for this grape variety. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot give this wine from South Africa a little more depth.

The Winery
The South African winery Meerlust has made wine history. With the ‘Rubicon’, it had created the very first South African blend and was inspired by the noble blends from Bordeaux. The winemakers impressively prove with the Meerlust Merlot that they can also produce other high quality red wines.

Storage
The Meerlust Merlot matured in oak barrels from France for 17 months; the main part in new barrels. This made it very storable yet it can also be enjoyed right away.
