Chamonix offers another highlight. Only one hour away from the lively city centre of Cape Town, the nature-loving owner Chris Hellinger has created a green oasis for wild animals. A few metres next to the estate, he set up a private, unadulterated wild preserve on over 50 hectares. In order to not disturb or even scare the timid inhabitants, the area is not open to the public. Guests that spend the night in the Safari Lodge or any other accommodation close to the great lake on the winery however can marvel at the great variety of the ostriches, springboks, elands and many other steppe inhabitants from their very own terrace.
Water and Wine
At least as famous as the wonderful wines of Chamonix is the fresh spring water which the winery bottles. Subterranean springs in the Franschhoek Mountains carry crystal clear water of the highest class which receives its unique noble taste by the special composition of the ground. The demand for the best water in South Africa has increased so much in the last few years that they needed a third facility to fill the bottles. The refreshing water from Chamonix is also available in a flavoured version – natural flavours excite and refresh many, many gourmets worldwide! Nowadays, the outstanding quality of the spring water is so famous that Chamonix can proudly state to be the first contract packager worldwide for Nestlé.
