The Wine in Detail
The Allée Bleue Pinotage appears in an intense, brick red colour in the gourmet’s glass. Aromas of ripe cherries and plums fill the air, closely followed by the scent of sweet vanilla pods, a hint of liquorice and a cedar wood note. These typical Pinotage nuances can also be found at the palate of this rich, soft and elegant red wine.

Goes with …

The Pinotage tastes excellent in combination with wild duck or even pike. The interplay with roast beef is also recommended. Additionally, this noble red wine also goes well with delicious dishes including venison.

Grape Variety
The vine of the Allée Bleue Pinotage was created from a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault and is considered to be South Africa’s national grape. It unites the robustness and fruity spice of Cinsault with the sweet, noble taste of Pinot Noir. Some vintages also develop smoky nuances as well as aromas of bananas and tropical fruits. This fruity sweetness can also be found in the Pinotage that is characteristic for its variety.

The Winery
The winery Allée Bleue has created a dry, intense red wine with the Pinotage that mirrors the terroir and grape variety. The vines of the red wine grow in a climatically favoured location in the Citrusdal and can beautifully ripen there. Also, the good soils and innovative cellar technology contribute to the high quality of the estate’s wines.

Storage
The Pinotage matured in oak for 14 months; one half of the barrels were constituted of new and the other half of old oak. For a small part of the red wine, the winemaker used American oak. Due to the wood development, the Pinotage features a high development potential and reveals its full character in some years’ time. Impatient gourmets can enjoy it today though.
