La Motte and the Rupert Family
In 1970, Dr Anton Rupert, an art lover and famous businessman with the personal wish to work in harmony with nature, purchased the winery La Motte. Today, the estate belongs to Rupert’s daughter Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg and she and her husband Hein Koegelenberg have made La Motte to a high class winery from South Africa. The farm can look back on a long history, as the descendant from the Huguenot Gabriel du Toit planted the first vines there in 1752. But it is just since the Rupert family manages La Motte that it has become an internationally important and respected wine producer and popular destination for numerous visitors of the country.
Highest Quality of La Motte Wines
Regularly, La Motte wines win numerous awards, amongst others prizes of the International Wine Challenge, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and the Michelangelo Awards. For many wine lovers, the name La Motte is almost a synonym for outstandingly high quality. Each and every wine is a testament to the high expertise in wine cultivation, the required experience, the passion for wine in general and the wineland South Africa in particular. The wines get their character from the estate’s special soils and the moderate climatic conditions that are present on the acreage. This is how fantastic wines for all of the collections are made, and that make a gourmet’s heart beat faster.
The Pierneef a La Motte
Many wineries in South Africa have their own restaurant, but few are as beautiful and good as the Pierneef a La Motte. The name is inspired by the South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef that was able to portray the beauty of the breathtaking landscape of South Africa with his unique creativity like very few others. Visitors can find this grace and overwhelming atmosphere in the restaurant of La Motte. The kitchen serves a fantastic mix of traditional South African dishes in a modern interpretation. Excellent recipes and a selected spice choice make the menus in the Pierneef a true pleasure for all senses.
